Hulhumale Future Projects

Hulhumale’ is the crux of the most ambitious and complex land reclamation and development project undertaken by the government of the Republic of Maldives. Located in the central region of the country, about 3km away from Male’, the development of Hulhumale’ involves the creation of a new land mass on what had once been a virtually obscure lagoon known as the Hulhulé-Farukolhufushi lagoon. A modern and unique city in the making, Hulhumale’ would ease the severe housing crisis and congestion prevailing in the capital region while maintaining a large population in the area for economic benefits of the nation. It would also create much needed employment opportunities through commercial and industrial developments while providing better quality contemporary living environments.

Established on the 23rd March 2005, the Hulhumale’Development Corporation Ltd (HDC), undertakes the development, management and administration of Hulhumale’ city. Aspiring to carry out this vast and impressive project in a financially feasible and commercially viable manner, HDC has adopted a target oriented approach to ensure that Hulhumale’ is a unique island city livinguptoits full potential.

Hospital and Nursing home facility

Location: North Maldives
Rationale:

The project is intended to reinforce the government's regional development strategy of
focusing development in two regional centers. The rationale for the project is the lack of adequate medical facilities and facilities for the elderly in the Maldives.

The hospital facility is intended to cater to both the Maldivian population and service the needs of the expanding tourism industry in the region. The project, in particular, the nursing home facility has the potential to introduce “medical tourism” to the already successful tourism product of the Maldives and thereby attract a new market segment to the Maldives.

Location: Haadhaalu Hanimaadhoo
Features: To be proposed by the investor on completion of market analysis

Business model:

Built-Operate-Transfer or Joint Venture
Time frame 1 to 3 years

International Hospital

Location : South Maldives
Features

The project provides an opportunity for establishing an international hospital targeting both local and foreign
residents

Rationale

The project is intended to reinforce the government's regional development strategy of focusing development in two regional centers. The rationale for the project is the lack of adequate medical facilities in the south of Maldives, which implies that a significant number of Maldivian nationals regularly travel to neighboring countries for medical treatment.

The project provides an opportunity for creating a hospital with advanced medical facilities with specialist services to cater to local and foreign residents. In addition, with the expansion of tourism in the south of Maldives, the project has the scope of introducing “medical tourism” to the already successful tourism product of the Maldives.

Location Gan, Addu Atoll
Features To be proposed by the investor on completion of market analysis.
Business model Built-Operate-Transfer or Joint Venture.
Time frame 1 to 3 years
